Mr Kofi Annan arrives in Tunis on the eve of WSIS

The Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr Kofi Annan, has arrived in Tunis, on November, 13, 2005, to take part in the second phase of the World Summit on the Information Society which Tunis will host on November 16-18, 2005. He was met at the Tunis Carthage international airport by Mr Abdelwahab Abdallah, Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Mr Annan is to attend the World Summit on the Information Society, to be held in Tunis, November 16-18, 2005, under the authority of the United Nations Organization.

Tunis 2005 WSIS: The Kram Palexpo officially handed over to the United Nations

In an official ceremony that took place, on November, 13, 2005, the Kram Palexpo which is due to host the Tunis 2005 WSIS on November 16-18, 2005, was officially handed over to the United Nations Organization which is henceforth officially in charge of the Summit.
The ceremony, which was presided by Mr Montassar Ouaili, Minister of technologies and communications and Mr Yoshio Utsumi, ITU Secretary General and Secretary General of the Summit’s executive secretariat, was attended by a number of personalities including Mr Hatem Ben Salem, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of European affairs, the Tunisian ambassador in Geneva and the president of the Summit’s standing organization committee. Several international personalities representing the UN and the ITU also attended the event.

Prepcom 3 reconvenes at the Kram Palexpo from November 13 to 15, 2005

PrepCom 3 will reconvene as of 13 November 2005 at the Kram PALEXPO with the participation of the representatives of governments, NGO’s and civil society and the private sector. Participants will examine the issues of internet governance, internet financing as well as the political chapeau of the Tunis declaration. They will also study the future implementation and follow up mechanisms. The reconvened PrepCom will end on November 15, 2005 on the eve of the official opening of the Summit, which is due to take place on November 16, 2005.
PrepCom 3 took place in Geneva on September 19-30, 2005; participants had then decided to pursue negociations before the Tunis Summit, at the level of a work group which was entrusted with the task of finalizing pending issues.
