القمع يصل لدولة مسالمة ! أجهزة الأمن الإماراتية تعتقل الناشط الحقوقي محمد الركن تعسفيا القاهرة في 28 أغسطس 2006 أدانت اليوم لجنة الدفاع عن الحريات بنقابة المحامين المصريين والشبكة العربية لمعلومات حقوق الإنسان ، قيام أجهزة الأمن الإماراتية باعتقال الدكتور "محمد الركن" الناشط الحقوقي منذ الأربعاء 23 أغسطس الماضي ، دون تقديم تفسير حول أسباب هذا الاعتقال أو ذكر الاتهامات الموجهة للركن . وتعد هذه هي المرة الثانية التي يعتقل فيها الدكتور محمد الركن خلال شهر أغسطس الحالي، والتي أتت أيضا دون تقديم توضيح حول أسباب هذا الاعتقال، لداعية حقوقي وأستاذ جامعي، اشتهر بدفاعه عن قضايا الحقوق والحريات في الإمارات ومنطقة الخليج العربي. وقال منتصر الزيات مقرر لجنة الحريات بنقابة المحامين المصريين" اعتقال الدكتور الركن انتهاك صارخ لحقوق الإنسان، خاصة حين يتم دون مراعاة القانون، ومع أستاذ جامعي في مجال القانون، نحن نتضامن معه ونطالب بالإفراج الفوري عنه". يذكر أن الركن كان ينتوي الترشح لأول انتخابات برلمانية تجري في الإمارات خلال الشهر القادمة ، وهو ما يلقي بظلال الشك حول صلة الاعتقال بهذه النية ، لاسيما وهو يحظي بقبول واحترام جماهيري واضح في العالم العربي كله وليس الإمارات وحدها. وقال جمال عيد المدير التنفيذي للشبكة العربية لمعلومات حقوق الإنسان " من المؤسف أن تكتسب الإمارات الخبرات السيئة للحكومات العربية في مجال انتهاك القانون ، بدلا من اكتسابها لخبرة احترامه ، يجب على الحكومة الإماراتية أن تعلن أسباب القبض علي الركن فورا وأن تجري تحقيقا محايدا ونزيها في أي اتهام يوجه للركن ، أو تخلي سبيله فورا" . جدير بالذكر أن محمد الركن كان يشغل منصب سكرتير جمعية الحقوقيين الإماراتية و يشغل حاليا منصب نائب رئيس الاتحاد الدولي للمحامين، وأستاذ القانون الدستوري بجامعة الإمارات. لجنة الدفاع عن الحريات بنقابة المحامين المصريين الشبكة العربية لمعلومات حقوق الإنسان |

The Committee to Defend Liberties of the Egyptian Bar Association and the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (HRinfo) condemned today the arbitrary detention of Dr. Mohammed Al-Rokn, the human rights activist, since Wednesday 23 August. No explanations for his arrest or accusations were put forward.
This is the second time in which Dr. Al-Rokn has been detained during the month of August this year. In both instances no clear reasons were provided for the detention of a university professor and human rights advocate famous for his defense of liberties in the Arab Gulf region.
"The detention of Dr. Al-Rokn is a blatant violation of human rights, especially that his arrest was conducted with no consideration of law," said Montasser Al-Zayyat, head of the Committee to Defend Liberties. "We are in solidarity with him and demand his immediate release," he added.
Al-Rokn was intending to nominate himself for the first parliamentary elections to be held in the UAE next month, raising doubts on the possibility of a connection between his arrest and his intentions for nomination.
"It is unfortunate that the Emirates acquires negative experiences from Arab governments with regards to violation of law in stead of acquiring respectable experiences that can be followed," said HRinfo Executive Director, Gamal Eid.
"The Emirate government should either immediately announce the reasons for arresting Al-Rokn and hold a neutral and integral investigation or release him," he added.
It is worth mentioning that Dr. Mohammed Al-Rokn was Secretary General of the Emirate Human Rights Activist association and is currently the vice president of the International Lawyer's Federation. Al-Rokn is also a professor of constitutional law at the University of Emirates.
